The timeless charm of swing and close-harmony singing

Le Sorelle Marinetti are an Italian vocal and theatrical trio created from an idea by producer and author Giorgio Umberto Bozzo. Conceived as three “improbable daughters” of the glorious E.I.A.R. era (the radio broadcaster of the 1930s and 1940s), the Marinettis are played by three actors and singers who step into the shoes of the “singing sisters”: Nicola Olivieri (Turbina), Marco Lugli (Scintilla) and Andrea Allione (Mercuria).

The project was born with a precise aim: to revive and celebrate the extraordinary repertoire of Italian “syncopated song” and swing. Under the rigorous and gifted artistic direction of Maestro Christian Schmitz – curator of all the arrangements and philological transcriptions – the trio brings back the magic of the legendary Trio Lescano and the great performers of the time (Silvana Fioresi, Maria Jottini, Alberto Rabagliati, Natalino Otto).

Their trademark is the demanding and fascinating style of “close-harmony singing” (canto armonizzato), performed with a technical precision and theatrical verve that are unique on the contemporary scene.

Debut and Theatrical Success

The official debut took place at Teatro Ciak in Milan in March 2008 with the musical show Non ce ne importa niente, which met with immediate success with audiences and critics. From that moment on, the trio’s theatre career has never paused, taking them to the stages of the most prestigious Italian and international theatres and festivals.

Over the years their style has evolved, combining music and prose in full-blown musical comedies of great success, including:

  • Risate sotto le bombe (2013): written by Giorgio Bozzo and Gianni Fantoni, set in 1943 during an air-raid alarm.
  • La Famiglia Canterina (2015): an ensemble show recalling the historic collaborations between the Trio Lescano and the finest voices of the era.
Sanremo and Major Collaborations

National fame was consolidated thanks to prestigious forays into the world of pop and contemporary singer-songwriters, and to frequent television and radio appearances:

  • Sanremo Festival (2010): they accompany singer Arisa on the stage of the Ariston with the song Malamoreno, definitively winning over the television audience.
  • Vinicio Capossela (2011): they lend their voices to the backing vocals of the single Pryntyl (from the album Marinai, profeti e balene) and take part in the singer-songwriter’s following summer tour.
  • Simone Cristicchi (2012): they duet on the song Torpedo blu at the Premio Caruso on Rai 1, a partnership that turns into the successful summer tour of the swing show Poker d’Assi.

Throughout their career, Le Sorelle Marinetti have worked steadily, in the studio and live, with the Orchestra Maniscalchi, a refined ten-piece ensemble specialising in vintage swing repertoire.

In 2010 they were on the stage of the Teatro Ariston with Arisa, in 2011 they went on a summer tour with Simone Cristicchi, and in 2012 Vinicio Capossela wanted them as backing vocalists on his single Pryntyl, from the album Marinai profeti e balene, and for the tour that followed the album’s release. Non ce ne importa niente
Non ce ne importa niente (We Couldn’t Care Less)Theatre showThe 1930s, swing and plenty of irony: musical theatre by Le Sorelle MarinettiNon ce ne importa niente (“We Don’t Care a Bit”) is not a simple concert but a genuine piece of musical theatre, taking the audience on a journey back in time to the 1930s and 1940s. Those were years of great unease, with dark clouds gathering on the horizon, but also years of longing for escape and carefree fun which – thanks to the stable of authors, singers and conductors of the E.I.A.R. (Ente Italiano Audizioni Radiofoniche, the Italian radio broadcasting body from which, like a phoenix, the RAI would later rise) – produced a repertoire of songs that still lift the spirits today. And to think that in 1925 Mussolini said: “This radio will never work!” Our guides on
Note di Natale
Note di Natale (Notes of Christmas)Musical showFrom the EIAR orchestras to the stage: the magic of Christmas by the Sorelle MarinettiA truly special Christmas! Note di Natale (“Christmas Notes”) is an original musical-theatre show that transports the audience to a bygone atmosphere with sketches, choreography and anecdotes about the customs and culture of the 1930s, and lulls them with the beautiful music of the EIAR light orchestras (the forerunner of the RAI). The backdrop is the Italy of sparkling film comedies, elegant dance halls, the radio, radio football commentaries, the Fiat Topolino and the Balilla, the boxer Primo Carnera and the aviator Italo Balbo. The Italy of our grandparents, who managed to find a reason to smile and be carefree in the “songs of the radio” at a time that was anything but easy. Alongside an extensive theatre career, the

An entertaining lesson in social history, enriched by a selection of amusing songs performed by the Sisters Turbina, Scintilla and Mercuria Marinetti (in real life Nicola Olivieri, Marco Lugli and Andrea Allione).
