Little musical jewels and rediscovered masterpieces: the intimate, elegant dialogue of Deb & Rose

Deborah Falanga (vocals) and Rosella Cazzaniga (guitar/double bass) are two artists with solid individual careers behind them who decided to join forces in this all-female jazz duo project.

The result of this meeting is a musical show – from which a CD was also released (P-Nuts Records, 2016) – conceived as a “sonic dialogue”: a dialogue not only between their instruments (the voice and the stringed instrument) but also with the audience, thanks to a musical itinerary of songs belonging to different cultures, eras and geographies.

Deborah and Rosella have patiently gone in search of, and recovered, little musical jewels, true authors’ masterpieces, not at all worn by time yet absent-mindedly abandoned in the most remote corners of our memory. Creations – anything but minor – by some of the finest craftsmen of Italian music, which regain vitality and freshness, thanks also to the arrangements devised for them.

These two wonderful musicians spark the listeners’ curiosity by offering small musical marvels: pieces unknown to most in their original form, unexpected kinships, contrasts that resolve through their highly personal arrangements, and readings of classics in a bossa nova key.

Deborah and Rosella are clear proof that music is a changeable matter, shifting in colour, appearance and flavour: a piece can, thanks to the talent of the performer, find a new definition and new, unexpected guises.

But the real surprise of this project is the understanding, the complicity, the feeling that this female combo manages to create on stage, in a dialogue that is not only between voice and instrument but also between artists and audience.
