InstrumentsPiano
Umberto Petrin is a leading pianist, composer and poet on the contemporary jazz and experimental music scene.
Characterised by a multifaceted training that combines classical rigour with intense activity in improvisation, Petrin has built a career founded on interdisciplinary dialogue between sound, literature and the visual arts.
Over the course of his artistic career he has collaborated with many of the most authoritative figures of international jazz and the avant-garde scene, pursuing a highly personal piano exploration centred on timbral continuity, the use of sonic space and the constant reworking of traditional forms.
Beyond his strictly musical and recording output, he is distinguished by a deep poetic and theoretical commitment, expressed through the writing of texts, the curation of critical essays and the structural integration of the spoken word and poetry within his concert performances.
