Adalberto Ferrari
InstrumentsSax, clarinets, ethnic instruments
Adalberto Ferrari is a clarinettist, saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist and composer, known as “the wayfarer of music” for his curious and open approach, focused on a crossover language that blends tradition, contemporary music, jazz, classical and ethnic music.
Holder of two degrees, in clarinet and in Music Disciplines with a jazz specialisation, he is a professor of clarinet at the “Arrigo Pedrollo” Conservatoire in Vicenza, for which he devised the first-level master’s course in “Woodwind Doubler”.
Co-founder of the duo NovoTono, he has recorded several albums acclaimed by critics and ranked at the top of the Musica Jazz TOP TEN, and has also collaborated with Gianluigi Trovesi on the project NRG Bridges. He co-founded the Quartetto Martesana, a reference ensemble for the clarinet repertoire, with which he recorded the complete chamber works of Mozart for clarinet, basset horns and voices.
He has been a member of the Italian Youth Orchestra and has played at prestigious national and international festivals (including Bergamo Jazz, Ascona Jazz Festival, Piacenza Jazz, the Casa del Jazz in Rome and the Gustar Music Festival in Moldova), collaborating with Christina Pluhar’s ensemble L’Arpeggiata and conducting the Orchestra Maniscalchi in historic Italian theatres.
With around 30 recordings to his name, he has taken his music all over the world, from Beijing to New York, and has run creativity workshops at the University of Milan-Bicocca, publishing the volume Creative Studies For Clarinets for the Accademia Italiana Del Clarinetto.
His recent arrival in the Rhapsodija Trio marks an important chapter of renewal and ethno-jazz experimentation for the ensemble.
Alongside his research and improvisation work, he pursues a prolific live career in swing and music for the stage, collaborating regularly with groups such as the vocal trio Sorelle Marinetti and the Orchestra Maniscalchi, of which he is the conductor.
